And yet, even with a breathing tube, even when she lost that can’t miss red hair, even when her energy was all but zapped, Izzy Bee still found a way to communicate, make friends with medical officials, and exhibit incredible resiliency and bravery. Despite the overwhelming odds, Izzy Bee still made her own rules, and she would until the very end. Izzy Bee may be gone, but her strength and desire to do things her way has inspired North Bullitt High School to honor her and carry the fight forward for others facing cancer. On Saturday, Sept. 20, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, North Bullitt will host the Izzy Bee Walkathon Blood Drive.Izzy Bee Walkathon Blood Drive

Quick-witted, loyal and opinionated, if you were a part of Izzy Bee’s circle, she had your back. She kept her friends close and her family even closer. Even as the youngest member of her family, she was the glue that held everyone together.
Whether it was serving as the captain of her high school’s bowling team, telling “dad” jokes, traveling to Gatlinburg or playing games with her family, Izzy Bee always had a witty remark and a laugh that would light up the room.Even when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in early 2023 and faced quick and unexpected complications in treatment, her spirit rarely wavered. AML took away her body’s ability to produce healthy blood cells, secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (a hyper-inflammatory disorder) resulted in painful and life-threatening complications that forced intubation and sedation, and infections ravished her body from the lack of healthy white blood cells to fight them off
She made one last decision in April of 2023 when her white blood cell production never returned. With one last act of strength, she decided to end her own treatment, demanding the doctors remove her breathing tube so that she could pass peacefully surrounded by her family.
The walkathon will raise money to fight childhood cancer. The blood drive, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in a bloodmobile outside the school's football stadium, will generate units of blood that will help other cancer patients undergoing treatment to fight the disease.
