Minecraft: Wood and Pixels Lecture November 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm For the first time ever artists are using Minecraft as a medium and the natural world for inspiration and it is happening at Bernheim.naturecraft2 Artists in Residence, Adam Clarke, Victoria Bennett and their son, Django Moses, are family of three from the United Kingdom known as The Common People, are spending the fall at Bernheim creating nature-inspired Minecraft worlds. Adam Clarke is also Wizard Keen on the popular YouTube show Wonderquest, alongside YouTube star, Stampy, that has more than half million subscribers around the world. The lecture will explore where the boundaries between nature-play and digital-play blur and consider how a meaningful dialogue between nature and gaming can potentially dispel the age-old concern of children who play video games don’t spend enough time outside. Through Minecraft, poetry, and play, The Common People are creating an authentic digital space where other children and families can discover and learn about Bernheim together. “Whether we come to it through sticks or pixels, the process is the same: curiosity and play, and from these seeds, the forests of tomorrow grow,” said Clarke. Young Minecraft players are invited to a special preview of some of the Bernheim-inspired Minecraft worlds during Bernheim’s ECO Kids Discovery Day on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Bernheim’s Visitor Center. $5 per car weekend environmental gate fee for Non-members does apply for those coming to the November 5 ECO Kids event.
